Built Unstoppable
We weave together a 50/50 blend of premier TenCate fibers – durable XPS and playable Diamond – to create IRONTURF. And since these fibers are split-resistant, the look of natural grass endures for years to come. Meet the most durable and playable turf on the market. IRONTURFis military-grade – a completely different category of turf, unlike any other.

Woven to Win
IRONTURF’S benefits go beyond its pile fiber and uniform play; its woven construction also leads to significant improvements in playability, durability and safety.
Traditional Tufted Pattern Drawbacks
Low-strength tuft bind fields are prone to “shedding” (tuft loss), which worsens over time. Only a thin layer of urethane adhesive (secondary backing) is applied to tufted fibers to lock the fibers in place. For a variety of reasons, tufts can have poor adhesion and poor tuft bind can lead to premature turf failure.
GRAB TEAR STRENGTH
Typical tufted turf has a grab tear strength (the force required to rip the fabric apart) between 200 – 250 pounds, with most measuring closer to 200. Woven turf is twice as strong and thus more resistant to rips, tears and freeze-thaw problems.
PILE FIBER DENSITY
Most tufted fields are much lower in pile weight and thus, pile density. Low weight pile systems do not resist foot traffic as well as denser systems. Infill splash is also a larger problem on low density systems.
IRONTURF Woven Pattern
Rather than using an adhesive, each pile fiber is woven with a sturdy fiber matrix. This creates one solid turf structure that is more than twice as strong as traditional turf tuft bind – which ensures that turf failure due to tuft loss is virtually impossible with woven IRONTURF.
GRAB TEAR STRENGTH
IRONTURF’s grab tear strength is at least DOUBLE that of standard tufted turf systems. No other product on the market is as dimensionally strong and stable.
PILE FIBER DENSITY
IRONTURF incorporates 59 ounces of pile fiber per square yard, which makes it the heaviest tall pile, filled system on the market (even without a thatch). Heavier pile densities create more plush, durable fields that are more resistant to wear and infill splash/migration.
The World’s Strongest Fibers
IRONTURF’S superior toughness and playability begins with an innovative dual fiber system – exclusive to TenCate – that utilizes a unique combination of the best fibers: The durable and flexible isotropic XP slit film fiber and the strong, thicker monofilament Diamond fiber.
Fibers of Strength
XPS Fibers
Slit film fibers are produced from a fibrillated film that has been converted into individual strips of a specific width and thickness.
XPS Fibers are the strongest, most durable on the market. The uniquely engineered isotropic slit film design with a wider fibrillation pattern allows these fibers to withstand the roughest play without losing their integrity. XP fibers are in high demand worldwide, but IRONTURF is only available with this superior technology.
Diamond Monofilament Fibers
Monofilament fiber is a synthetic thread or yarn composed of a single strand.
Made thicker, with no weak stress points in its shape, our diamond fibers substantially enhance resiliency and playability by standing up straighter for longer. Athletes can count on our distinctive ribbed design to reduce glare.
Your Field, Your Way
Another benefit to IRONTURF’S woven technology is that its 12-PIC stitching is great for clean graphics. We offer IRONTURF in a variety of colors as well so you can customize your field to fit your style and to match school colors and logos.
Our exclusive AquaJet system enables us to create customized, intricate turf designs by concentrating water into a high-pressure stream (50,000 PSI) that allows it to cut and shape materials.
Taking it to the Field
The field is where the fibers and construction are put to the real test. On the field, there are no controlled settings. There are hard tackles, quick slides, thumping feet, blazing sunlight and sometimes, even crashing race cars. IRONTURF must hold up to all that – and more.
Playability
IRONTURF’s system plays and feels like natural grass more than any other synthetic turf because the fibers stand vertically, eliminating a directional lay. The uniform and heavy fiber coverage allows for greater playability because it improves infill stability, reducing infill splash and displacement, primary sources of uneven playing surfaces that can cause poor footing and premature damage in the most-used parts of the field. With IRONTURF, players can accelerate, stop, change directions or hit the ground without being inhibited by an inconsistent playing surface.
Safety
Safety is one of IRONTURF’s key pillars. The diamond pattern of the woven fibers allows free movement of the infill, which decreases infill compaction and migration. This encourages greater uniformity of play and better rotational resistance levels, which makes the playing surface more predictable and safer. IRONTURF’s synthetic turf also better attenuates shock, which provides less stress on players’ lower legs.
Durability
The combination of XP and Diamond fibers coupled with IRONTURF’S MatriX woven technology assures strong tuft bind and grab tear, eliminating shedding and fiber loss typically caused by poor tuft bind. While most turf products fall between 50 – 100,000 cycles on the FIFA-designed Lisport abrasion wear machine, recent independent studies show that IRONTURF endures more than 300,000 cycles. This proves it to be THE most wear-resistant infilled system on the market, ideal for high-impact, heavy-use applications.
